1) pens/dark lines will give you more consistent line weight, which sounds great on paper, but no variation in line weight can flatten your drawing 2) those single pass dark lines are a lot more revealing of hesitation or shakiness 3) pencils/sketches suggest shading and allow for softer transitions, pen/line art defines edges and needs shading to have depth.
