Really liked a lot of the stories in rebels and the characters but tbh Ezra never grew on me either like Ashoka did to the audience of TCW. Kanen, Hera, Zeb, Sabine and even chopper were so much more likable and had good growth. Also had better character designs, I’ve never liked his blue hair and orange outfit looks ugly as fuck
i feel like it suits his personality well and also provides a practical solution to the problem of lightsabers being exclusively short range weapons. this makes sense when they’re not being hunted, but rebel activity typically requires a bit more distance and shadow ops which long range weapons help with. also it’s fun and new and that’s not a crime
and the jedi order was annihilated. sometimes values are compromised by necessity. almost every force user we see who was not nearly an adult/an adult during the purge uses a blaster, from kanan to luke. what the jedi once were was destroyed, and those who remained had to adapt. it’s just more efficient to combine gun/saber than to carry both, esp since kyber is a powerful energy source that likely wouldn’t overheat or need regular charging, making it more convenient in unexpected situations
Outside of lore yes it’s cool and new and fun for the kiddos. But the whole point of a Jedi carrying a lightsaber is that it’s meant to be a defensive weapon in a galaxy of blasters which are purely offensive. A lightsaber with a built in blaster taints what has been so sacred for thousands of years. Yes Jedi - especially in TCW - used it in much more offensive ways.
