Honestly out of the 3 Sequel Trilogy films, The Last Jedi is the film that feels the most like it was made by George Lucas

As much as I really don’t care for those three films tlj has a lot of really nice ideas and parts in it I just think like a lot of things in the trilogy it failed to live up to its potential still really pretty tho except for ugly horse things actually gods least favorite creatures put em back in the torture stables

I am definitely of the opinion that the sequel are overhated, but this is definitely where the sequel trilogy started to fall off. Story choices were poor/illogical, character arcs/development was terrible or didn’t reach its potential (they absolutely butchered Luke). Several creative decisions were great and original, but subverting expectations just for unpredictably’s sake doesn’t make it good. This was a good movie, just not a good Star Wars movie.

TLJ is the most philosophical of the 3 films and it’s the film that explores the most new and unique ideas. Also it’s the boldest of the trilogy, and these are all examples of George Lucas’s filmmaking style. Plus, the reception of Rose and the broom kid give me total Jar Jar and Anakin Phantom Menace vibes

I liked a lot of TLJ, including everything about Rose, the whole arc of trying to find the codebreaker guy (even if it kinda made no sense), and especially the end where the kid uses the force to pick up the broom. On the other hand, even while sitting in the theater, it felt like it was emulating the plot of 5 and 6 and leaving nowhere for 9 to go in a way that felt spiteful.

In hindsight, I’m kinda wondering if they meant to do a lot with Leia in 8 and 9 but couldn’t because Carrie Fisher died, and were too hung up on the scheduling to step back and really rethink how they wanted. As much as I enjoyed watching it, TLJ was the point where it felt the most like Disney genuinely had no overarching plot for the three movies.
