I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I wonder what the identity of Star Wars will be 30 years from now now that the Skywalker Saga is complete. Until now, Star Wars has been a multi-generational episodic saga, but anything moving forwards can’t be

I think at some point they’ll just reboot the franchise and start with a movie/series set in a time period we have yet to explore (or if not, then maybe the Old Republic). I think it would be cool to have something set in the far future so it’s not contingent on what’s come before. There’s only so much they can do in the Skywalker Saga to retain interest.

Of course, there have always been Star Wars tv shows and books, but Star Wars was always intended on being an episodic film saga. The rest of it is just extra with the main focus being on the episodic films. Since they won’t be making any more of those films, any new Star Wars is going to be simply “spin off” Star Wars. So I’m curious how kids will view Star Wars 30 years from now when the most recent episodic film is 35+ years old and they’re watching new and different characters on spin offs
