They refused. They outright stated they didn’t have anything to work off of, which was a deliberate lie they gave to distance themselves from the legends series.

Heir to the Empire could be a great FIRST sequel trilogy, but personally I always wanted a Dark Empire adaptation but instead of resurrecting Palpy it’s an heir of his, or at least someone pretending to be his heir, like Cronel “Lord Shadowspawn” from Legends, working alongside Ysanne Isard and Admiral Daala. Of course Lumiya would be pulling the strings. You could even have it like Carnor Jax was her first apprentice, her second was Cronel, and her last one was Jacen, all to turn Luke

After Mara dies and Luke butchers Lumiya in revenge, you can have Jacen be spared by Jaina and redeem him. Jaina and Jacen face off against the threat Lumiya tried to prepare them for, Darth Krayt leading the Yusang Vong and One Sith, (Lost Tribe of the Sith) and Luke becomes One With the Force to defeat Abeloth!
