Phantom menace literally set up the entire franchise to have legitimate meaning and did an INSANE amount of world building. There has to be motivations and political tension for a war, and that’s what the Phantom Menace introduced.

No it isn’t. Genuinely well made movie that was severely misunderstood and that was bogged down by false expectations. People wanted a Star Wars, and they got starspeare. But idgaf, starspeare is fucking baller. Wholeheartedly believe that the response to TPM curb stomped George’s plans for the trilogy, of was only able to regain partial footing in ROTS. I do not think we got the original story, and I think TPM is the only glimpse into what could have been. And it’s sick.
