The sound machines seemed to be directional and they were all pointed away from the gate, that’s my guess. Plus she was in the upside down, not the real world

If they were pointed away, wouldn't that leave a decent chance of her still being hit by it if she was hiding somewhere because the El at the gate was an illusion?

Kali would have had to not bleed out from the gunshot wound, have enough energy and concentration to pull off the illusion, survive the initial c4 blast and not lose concentration, survive the exotic matter explosion and not lose concentration, and then maintain the illusion through the inevitable collapse of the lab. That isn’t accounting for the fact that eleven would have had to bypass every soldier there while being bombarded with the sound machines. Plus how would Kali even know to do it?

Oops I completely misread your comment but I guess those are just some additional reasons why it wouldn’t work. But yeah idk how she would’ve avoided those

Then again it can't just be his imagination because it includes things he didn't see. So idk maybe it is reality or somewhere in between

My biggest issue w her alive is that Kali survived that long and the duffers said Eleven "never communicates with Mike." Also how would she get into his head while also escaping? She needs to be concentrated to do that
