i took the ending differently- that El did die but mike and the party were making up this scenario where she didnt to cope. Kind of like a she will live forever in our hearts and she deserved her happy ending?? idk maybe i read it wrong

the duffers said there was a plot twist in the finale, so im guessing that was it. that’s why i think el is alive
