I’m conflicted on this ad because this type of ad was already done and was already controversial for other reasons and to do it again in today’s world is… a choice. On the ad itself it’s just ok imo but with other political contexts I could see how it’s under scrutiny. The idea that other similar ads are now showing with similar looking models and the fact we are already having authoritarian problems in the US and having things more catered to white patriarchal ideals is well bad timing at best.
do you need a source for the fact that nazis upheld blonde hair and blue eyed people have genetic superiority over other races? cuz that’s where the connection comes from. the add implies there’s something genetically desirable about having blue eyes which could just mean blue eyes are pretty but i feel like the parallel to nazi stuff isn’t that hard to draw. maybe it’s not what they meant but it’s what it gave for a lot of people
the ad it was copying from was already controversial, so remaking it was weird. Having a blonde, blue eyed woman being the model for the ad is fine by itself. Releasing it at a time where we are already on edge of white washing and white male beauty standards makes it a bad time to air the ad. It’s bad timing at best which is why I sympathize with people being upset at the ad. It’s just a mid ad at best tbh. Especially since they cater to women, I feel like it’s not effective.
see i don’t think they even meant it like that because you do have to take several steps to get there but i think it’s literally mostly the weird focus on genetics also people are negative because the world sucks and the truth often is negative and the thing is even though they probably didn’t mean it that way using language that others use as like dog whistles can make it easier for people who are actually doing it on purpose
