The video assigns blame for misogyny exclusively to men which is just untrue. Women's internalized misogyny is also a very strong force (for example about a third of American women want their abortion rights to be taken away). Furthermore not all misandry is reactionary. For example in much of the US until recently and to this day in the UK female on male rape was not legally recognized as a thing that could happen. That's just bad and actively harmful and not just a result of men being sexist towards women
sure men and women are responsible for perpetuating the patriarchy, but… it is called the patriarchy. its controlled by men. the power is in men’s hands to keep it or change it. and denial of male r*pe is a product of the patriarchy not allowing men to be victims. the videos point is that misandry is not a systemic, societal issue, because it just isnt. someone on the internet saying “men bad” is not oppression
Also I'm not only bringing up male victims to make women look bad? The video and you are claiming that prejudice against men or in favor of women is not systemic and has no real consequences other than people getting butthurt on Tiktok. I mentioned that as a counterexample to show a situation where the prejudice is systemic (exists in the legal system) and has very real repercussions on real people. For the record the same problematic laws I mentioned also hurt victims of female on female SA and trans victims of SA; I didn't mention that because the video didn't touch on issues in the queer community but I think that's equally messed up and all the more reason why the laws and societal attitudes should be changed!!
TL;DR sexism is bad regardless of who does it against whom and trying to broadly paint half the population as The Evil Perpetrators and the other half as The Faultless Victims is overly simplistic and not only detracts from real progress but also actively worsens the issues faced by victims of sexism
OP you can probably tell from my comments that I mostly agree with you but again let's not generalize. I'm guessing you're male? And like I said you being male doesn't make you responsible or accountable for the misdeeds of bad people you've never met who just so happen to share your gender. In the same way #1 being a woman doesn't make her responsible or accountable for the misdeeds of bad or insensitive people who just so happen to share her gender
1) patriarchy is a system wide issue, not the fault of any individual. obviously. i dont think men are inherently evil. 2) you bring up male victims not being legally recognized. obviously this is a bad thing, but its not an example of systemic missndry. its an example of how patriarchy hurts men 3) women arent perfect, but they are consistently abused by men who have power over them because of social expectations and prejudices 4) @op i am a communist and ur stupid
to say “sexism is bad” no matter who does it, all ur doing is obscuring who the victims of sexism are in most cases. women. youre arguing against this because the idea that men as a class hurt women is difficult for you to hear. because “youre not a bad guy”. but newsflash lilbuddy, most people benefit from oppression and arent forced to think about it. and youre clearly someone whos trying hard not to think about it. its pathetic.
1) You literally said the patriarchy is controlled by men so idk how you reconcile that with what you're saying now. Also the properties of any given system necessarily emerge from the properties of its components (not in a purely additive manner, true, but in some manner nonetheless). So there is no dichotomy between "this is a system wide issue" vs "this is an individual issue." Any system wide issue necessarily has a basis in individuals
2) It is systemic in that it is part of a large system, in this case being explicitly codified in a legal system that impacts millions of people (actually billions if we consider countries other than the US and UK, most of which have more regressive gender roles/norms, but I digress). It is misandry in that it is prejudicial against male individuals (in this case denying them legal recourse or recognition on the basis of their sex and gender). If it is systemic and it is misandry then it logically follows that it must be systemic misandry
3) People act as individuals, not broad demographics. It is overly simplistic and counterproductive to pretend that all women in 100% of cases are oppressed by all men. Instead we should realize that every individual interaction is shaped by various biases and prejudices, which can include various kinds of sexism none of which is more or less real than another
1) look yeah i believe “not all men” or whatever. but… a lot of nen passively allow their privilege to benefit them at the expense of others, and a smaller number of men actively abuse their privelege. thats how patricarchy is a systemic issue without all men being evil. 2) its not misandry. a law which only positions men as perpetrators of violence is positioning men are subjects and women are objects; it assumes women dont have the ability to r*pe. this is toxic masculinity, not hatred of men.
4) I'm not even gonna touch this further after this comment but I would suggest you read a history book or an economics book. First I would suggest that you read literally any piece of communist theory (the Manifesto doesn't count as it was explicitly designed to be palatable propaganda without actual substance) and you should notice immediately that it has several flaws. (For example the labor theory of value which is the foundation of Das Kapital and introduced in it's very first chapter has no basis in reality if you think about it for more than 2 seconds.) Then read a history book to see how communism has proven impossible to implement and had universally caused more harm than good every time someone tried
3) In certain contexts, yes. In other contexts, no. I would agree with you that the "yes" cases tend to outnumber/outrank the "no" cases but this does not make the "no" cases illegitimate. When Black men were lynched in the Jim Crow era for baseless accusations of SA against White women, did the women not exert privilege? When armies attacking civilian populations are ordered to kill the men of a captured town but to spare the women and children, do the women not exert privilege? Privilege is nuanced and has many dimensions. There is no black and white hierarchy of what broad demographics have privilege over each other
these white women were exerting white privilege. not some made-up form of female privilege. they didnt kill the women so they could r*pe them. where’s their privilege then? tryna bring intersextionality into the argument like it changes the simple fact that men are privileged over women. patriarchy is real, bluh bluh bluh
So then why were Black men lynched at a much higher rate than Black women? Why were accusations of harm against White women taken much more seriously than accusations of harm against White men? The privilege here is a complex nonlinear interplay of both race and gender, not a case of race overriding gender Anyway I won't be wasting more time on this thread but OP I hope this has taught you that some of us liberals/center left people care about both men's AND women's issues, and that many self proclaimed communists do not. #1 I still disagree with you strongly about many many things but I hope you at least gained some new perspectives. Adieu
