“Guns aren’t the problem, people are!” So… why do y’all keep handing guns to the problem?

“they’ll still find a way to commit these tragedies!” yeah I doubt the mass shooters could kill 50 people with a knife… even when you think about explosives, those take a certain affinity and preparation which many shooters wouldn’t have. we’re practically handing them the means to slaughter us.

Good luck keeping them from acquiring a gun even if they are illegal. Then you’ve got them armed and the law abiding citizens unarmed. There’s no realistic world where that works

People don’t understand, Gun control sounds really good, but it’s a really shitty idea. All it does is make people who aren’t looking to do the illegal thing harder to get a firearm. Meanwhile, the person who’s willing to go about it by any means necessary will have a gun regardless. I also chose the UK for this mainly because of their gun control laws.

Except in this world, where we’ve seen it work every time it’s implanted.

You can get a gun anywhere in the world. You just have to know how to get it. I did a project on this actually. I was able to provide step by step on how to get a gun if you lived in the UK. (Educational purposes only)

Exactly, we couldn’t keep guns out of the wrong hands if we tried. What we need to do is put more of them in the right hands to protect people from those with bad intent

More guns ≠ more safety

How do you suggest we protect ourselves from people that illegally possess guns?

How many “good guy with a gun” does it take to stop one “bad guy with a gun”

Potentially 1, but the odds get better as the number rises. Your point?

A huge majority of crimes are crimes of opportunity. By your logic we should get rid of all locks because to a sufficiently motivated or knowledgeable person a lock is nothing more than a mild inconvenience.

Locks deter crime without hurting the homeowner, but strict gun laws can take away a law-abiding citizen’s ability to defend themselves. We need laws that stop the opportunistic criminals without restricting the rights of responsible gun owners that use them as protection

No, we need restrictions on who can have guns, what types, and how many. Nobody needs a (semi)automatic, at all. Nobody needs to have 15+ guns. At all. There need to be more strict background checks, better mental health checks, and inspections to ensure others are not able to access them when locked up as they should be. Every other country implemented gun restrictions and has benefited from it. The only reason we haven’t is because hobbyists think they’re more important than everyone dying.

Do you know how incredibly small the proportion of gun crimes are committed by an illegally obtained gun and stopped by a non-LEO with a legally obligated gun?

If that’s what you think the restrictions should be you’re completely missing the point of why we have the 2nd amendment in the first place

Do you have a source for that claim? Because the Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that over 40% of crime guns come from illegal markets, while only 10% are bought legally.

To oppose tyrannical governments with slow ass muskets, not high-powered semi-automatics that now children down just so someone can have a “hobby” of showing that they don’t give a fuck about people’s lives. More guns = less safe

The Constitution protects principles, not specific tools. If we applied the same logic to the 1st Amendment, it wouldn’t cover phones, podcasts, or the internet. The 2nd Amendment wasn’t about muskets, it was about the right to resist tyranny and defend oneself. That principle doesn’t vanish because firearms evolved.
