I swear.. America has fallen way behind mannerism….. in Thailand if someone’s older you call them P if younger is Noung. Very polite and cute. In Vietnamese as well and many other countries

As long as they don’t beat them up if they forget to call them that then it’s not that big of a deal but I get what you’re saying. I will say referring to elders I encounter in my job as sir or ma’am has gotten me pretty far.

true, i guess i’m talking when it’s not culturally part of where they’re from and doesn’t feel natural, like i’m from the east coast and i remember having a friend in elementary school whose parents would get genuinely angry if he said mom or dad instead of ma’am or sir and i even knew then it was weird 😭

That is a completely different culture, I don’t think it’s fair to compare cultural mannerisms and say one is “better”. That’s kind of what white people do all the time, don’t be like white people.
