The government should expropriate properties owned by land leeches in areas where the rent is too high and sell them at reasonable prices to people who need them

While that would be nice price wise, it would one, infringe on the owner’s rights to the land and undercut the market crumbling it. Government subsided housing probably wouldn’t be very comfortable either since it would be governmental contracts. What should happen is the government should find a way to incentivize lower housing costs through tax relief/cuts in accordance with county based housing provisions. I wish that would happen as it would literally make EVERYONE happy but it’s the feds…

The government should expropriate zoning laws and allow housing to be built to match demand. Boom, problem solved without violently trampling the rights of millions of people. Plus the actual housing supply would grow and costs would drop as supply equalized with demand. Much better than sending people with guns to take things from innocent people, and it doesn’t lead to the consequence of beginning a cycle of violence which has resulted in the deaths of millions over the past century.

Landlords hold housing hostage and then sell it back… the argument that gov housing wouldn’t be “comfortable” is a little difficult to justify because these kinds of landlords that OP is referring to tend to let issues slide as is. I do like your idea about tax cuts for quality owners it sounds interesting!

Yeahhh I’m used to hearing about military housing and military subsidized housing which SUCK 😂 but that’s jointly operated by the military and fed government so it’s hard to say which one makes it suck lol. But yeah where it’s at rn is absolutely unsustainable and unfortunately everyone is apparently allergic to a non-partisan solution so sucks to be us young adults ig….
