no it’s actually meant to stop rebellions without having to call in national forces. it was written to quell revolts from slaves and poor farmers (think shay’s rebellion)

No the constitution gave the federal government the authority to create its own militia to stop a rebellion like what’s rebellion, the anti-federalists demanded to have the second amendment so that the common people could still rebel against a tyrannical government.

i don’t disagree that part of its purpose was to have a safeguard against a standing army under a tyrannical govt. however, local militias and personal weapons made it significantly easier to put down slave rebellions or lower class protests towards the ruling class, which is a significantly less spoken about but no less historically significant facet

Brother, I think you got the communist manifesto mixed up with your federalist papers. The purpose of the second amendment was not to put down rebellions of the working class, the second amendment was meant to arm the “working class” so they couldn’t be put down so easily. Why would you give the majority of people military grade weapons to make it easier for a minority to oppress them?

In fact modern strategic analysis points to the rate of firearm ownership as a major factor that makes occupation of the mainland US basically impossible. Can you imagine the insurgency if you tried to occupy Texas?
