The WV government sucks is a lot of the reason that the state gets a bad reputation. The people that live there are usually really good people. I’ve got family there and also go to school close to the WV border, I’ve never met a disrespectful person from there.

We’re an incredibly abused society. First it was the eastern Virginians imposing their state religion, then when we became states they imposed high taxes and refused to give us resources to build roads. We split off in 1863, but things continued to get worse. The coal companies were horrible. It escalated to a 5-day fight known as the Battle of Blair Mountain. It was the largest armed uprising since the Civil War. People think the abuse is over because workers have certain rights now, but…

as we speak, rivers are being (perhaps intentionally) poisoned by mine runoff. In addition to this, they’re building windmill farms to power OTHER states and AI data centers.

absolutely. i was born in wv and have lived here all my life. most of the people here are absolutely lovely. the state is just very politically corrupt and treated as an internal colony :/
