is it truly so bad to want to stay in your hometown? you all talk about people who stay so poorly - but i think where i live is one of the better places to be. i have ikea and topgolf. i get to keep and renovate the family home + the area is highly ranked

If you have ikea you probably don’t live in a small town, so the negative stereotypes don’t really apply. I’m guessing KC?

Not everyone is quite so lucky, but good for you!

not bad at all! still don’t know where I’ll end up but i have no complaints if i end up in my hometown. my parents settled here for a reason 🤙

For me personally, I’m happy to stay in my home town but I want it to be because I chose to not because I didn’t have any options.

If you never get out of your hometown you will never grow

Do what makes you happy. But be aware you are actively constructing your reality in a bubble. There is a massive world out there. I like my town and my state. I but I’m also fascinated at the fact that there are 8.1 BILLION of us living our lives in different cultures and societies. I would be kicking myself for not seeing more of life if I just stayed put. The best part is the more I discover about what’s outside my bubble the more I understand myself. As weird as that sounds it’s true!

Coming back home can be very uncomfortable. Leaving can be escapism.

i live in the suburbs of cincinnati. i’m close to multiple different states if i want to have a getaway. 20 minutes outside the city for activities. there are multiple rivers and lakes for boating or swimming.

as a child i wanted out so bad, but then i left for college and heard about places other people came from. as an adult who now wants kids, i definitely see why people settle here. the schools are good and there’s plenty to do

Change is uncomfortable but it makes you grow

and i don’t know why you think that things can’t change just because you want to stay in the same town. the world changes every day.

Not at all :) we also go through so many phases in life and if you’re in the phase of wanting to be in your hometown there’s no shame in that. I will say though that there’s a difference between being stuck in a comfort zone that dosent encourage growth and simply being content at where you are. We’re so young I’m sure you will reach a phase where you want change.

no successful person ever said “I stayed in my hometown”

so the people who went on to college and came back to be doctors, teachers, police officers… they aren’t successful…just because they stayed in the town they grew up in.

Absolutely agree, if you stay in your hometown it’s the easier and more comfortable choice. You don’t grow as a person and learn new things by being comfortable

I promise you life can throw you so many curb balls that force you to out of your comfort zone regardless if you choose to stay in your hometown or not. Growth can be found anywhere you want , just like getting out of your comfort zone.

idk why yall act like i can’t get up and travel either. im close to the airport , something i didn’t have when i left. i have the resources to leave whenever id like but if things are good WHY would i? above all else i want to be a mom and have a family. i live in one of the best ranked places for that. there is no reason that someone should look down on someone for returning home. not all of us have miserable upbringings
