i have birding friends and i go with them sometimes but im SO bad at finding the birds, how do you learn how to do that? like is there a technique or am i just that blind 💀💀

I kinda feel like it’s a learned skill! I’ve gotten way better than I was a year ago when I first got really into birding. It takes a TON of patience.

There a groups that post about bird that nest in your area usual on facebook but the best thing that I do I I go to a meadow near me turn on Merlin bird id for song Id ans when bird want to see shows up on the app I try and find the direction of the call other then that it’s just a waiting game

i love merlin so much, i can identify the calls of most of the birds native to my area now!! i just need to learn to find them

I find focusing on looking for movement rather than birds helpful. Birds don’t tend to stay still for too long so a movement can alert you.
