In West Virginia, we already have free lunch. Maybe not the best quality, but it’s free.

And they send home free care packages for the weekend. I seldom got them because I didn’t want to take one from a kid who genuinely needed one.

We still have our fair share of problems. The education system, like many places, is still horrific. Many kids simply don’t care about education, and many of the teachers are just there for a salary. I managed to help my friend learn basic division in the 11th grade. The best explanation he ever got from a teacher was, “it’s multiplication but backwards,” so 10 / 5 was -40 (10 - 10… - 10).

There’s also all kinds of bizarre corruption. Like, they’ll help kids hide drugs so that they get their “drug-free school” money. There’s also a debacle in Nicholas county over a principal “allegedly” hiring pedos because they’re family.

And one that happened in my local district was the superintendent embezzled money from teachers who were renewing their licenses. She got off with a slap on the wrist (training on how to use money) and the teachers’ licenses expired and weren’t allowed to teach the following year.
