Nah Texas is cool. Just too hot, too many bugs, too spread out, too many oversized highway interchanges & ugly “stroads”, and ERCOT issues. It’s got great heritage, wildlife, landscapes, opportunities for starting over, opportunities for growing a family, and an admirable semi-frontier spirit. Like any regional culture, it’s not for everyone and that’s okay. It’s not my home (& hopefully it stays that way) but I respect the place.
I speak of things that generally can have a broad consensus of agreement. What you speak of is largely a matter of analysis filtered through opinion based on a particular standpoint. Except for that last point. We can all agree that it’s a dysfunctional government (nobody is more frustrated at the Texas legislature than young right-wing voters, and obviously left-wing voters wouldn’t like them either)
I mean we do lack freedoms. Do we have legal weed or even an actual medical program or some reduced or decriminalized charges? Can women access reproductive care? Can you buy liquor on sundays or at a grocery store? Can you bet on anything or go to a casino? Can you buy a car sunday? buy a car from the manufacturer? Petition for amendments on a vote? Can you Build an ADU w/o HOA getting pissed off?
And yeah, many Conservatives ik dislike the current gov since they are very ineffective and also since they like all conservatives want to gamble, smoke weed, and like actual small business yet the current ones don’t want that but since we can’t petition for public votes and since they think the Dems will take guns away we’re stuck in this limbo
The natural scenery where i live and in a lot of the State save hill country and a few other spots is very lackluster. History is interesting and nice but it sadly leads to a culture of over the top obscene pride which leads to willful ignorance. Rest of it is valid though, but i find it funny how you don’t live here and don’t want to yet are speaking positively while ive been here over a decade and look what i’m saying
