Same tree different branch: u need a credit card to build good credit but u need good credit to qualify for a credit card (at least a CC with decent APR and won’t fuck u over with fees)

This is the same thing with my mom. In their divorce, my father lied about his money to the court. My mom needs his money to buy her own place, but she needs her own place to get his money to be paid.

So there is a thing called a learners permit. Basically it allows you to drive as long as someone over 21 is in the passenger seat. That’s how everyone I know went through the process, idk what ur state is like tho. But also it makes sense not to give someone with 0 proof of driving experience a license, that’s a road hazard.

You don’t need a drivers license to make money.

APR doesn’t apply to you if you pay it off by the end of the month

You build credit by paying off the credit card bill before the end of the month so you never have interest and most of the time you’ll get cash back so there aren’t fees

No, but you need one to get to work. Where we live at least.

Well yes. I know all of that. However how am I supposed to qualify for a credit card if I have no credit history. That’s the discrepancy lol

Actually you have a credit score even without a credit card.

Ya my credit score is 621 without a CC and everywhere I’ve applied to require at least a 640😂 it’s not that deep & I have a financial plan I’m just commenting in the irony.

& they keep telling me my credit history is too young (even though I’ve had student loans since Aug of 2023) so just because you HAVE credit without one doesn’t mean that you’ll qualify still🥴

Get a secured credit card they’re specifically designed for people with no credit history.

sorta not sorta yeah. good credit cards require good credit score and applying and getting rejected lowers them, but apply for good “starter” cards. they have lower limits and high apr, but if you pay it back before ur payment is due then apr won’t effect you. use it at first to only get things like gas and groceries that you know you can pay off. treat it like a debit card.

I applied for a beginner credit card with my 620 (“fair”) and they told me my credit score isn’t high enough. One of them even told me I haven’t been at my job long enough. even though I had a job for 4 years, moved 6 months ago and started a new job, so that disqualified me as well. I know the theoretics of keeping a credit card and I make enough money to make smart choices with it, but I just can’t seem get approved for one lol

Like #1 said, you have a score without ever using credit. It won’t be good but you’ll be able to get a card. Don’t worry about APR or benefits for your first one, just get something with no AF and pay (fully) monthly. Also a lot of secured cards are easy as f*** to get

If you have a good relationship with your parents they can add you as an authorized user on their account and it’ll raise your credit. My credit is 740+ because I was added to the family card

This is never true even if it feels this way. You can always move, take the bus, ride a bike, etc. Driving is a (so convenient it’s basically required but not quite) privilege not a right.

There is no bus. If you can’t afford a DL, how can you afford to move? A bike also isn’t an option if you don’t wanna wake up at 3AM. Especially not in the winter.

I get it you don’t want to wake up at 3am, but you could!

you cannot always move, moving requires money for a deposit for an apartment. bus fare costs money, not a lot but you need starter funds. plus many jobs ask if you have reliable transportation now adays (esp beginner jobs) and public transit is not always reliable. especially if you live in an area with shitty public transit or even a rural area with NO public transit. you are then stuck relying on carpool which isn’t always reliable.

also, driving IS a privilege, you are right there, BUT in many areas (esp non-urban areas) a drivers license is a necessity. it’s a privileged mindset to think it’s never true that a licences is needed to get money, because in many areas it is. growing up i lived in a semi-urban area and could reasonably walk to most jobs that would hire me, but where i currently live (rural midwest) i would need a car to get to any job nearby.

Driving is a privilege BUT my city won multiple “best place to live” awards before even getting a bus. Now we have ONE bus. Also riding a bike is a privilege too. It’s so incredibly dangerous to bike on some of these roads when it’s dark (like at 3 am). And what if you’re disabled? I literally can’t ride a bike. Without my car I would die. Everything is a privilege, nothing is a right, some things are necessary even if it seems silly like a car or a phone. That’s the world we live in
