I am more curious: Do y’all hate AI, or do y’all hate the people that are using AI irresponsibly? Cuz for me I’m using Claude and it helped me solved my problem with running a fluid dynamic simulation and now I have tons of notes to study and review AND I learned new stuff. Do I hate AI? No. Do I hate people irresponsibly using AI? Yes.
AI is already being used for cancer detection, medical imaging analysis, drug discovery, protein folding, stroke detection, fraud prevention, accessibility tools for disabled people, emergency dispatch triage, etc etc etc. I’m an EMT (the person who responds to 911 calls), a CS masters student, and work with dispatch centers optimizing stationing so I CAN RESPOND TO YOUR 911 CALLS FASTER BECAUSE OF AI
the reason people are focusing on AI above the others you mentioned is because AI is at the cause of a lot of other problems that are only going to get worse if we do not put a stop to it now. the other issues are important, yes, but your entire argument falls under the red herring fallacy. AI is the priority atm - most people are capable of understanding congruent problems happen simultaneously, while also being able to focus on one problem at a time
personally idc about the water issues with golf courses and agriculture because flock cameras have made their way into my neighborhood and more data centers are being built all around my city, so THAT is my priority. i am still concerned about golf (i’ve been bitching about it for years) and agriculture (envs student who studies this in class) but i am much more immediately concerned about the flock camera that is pointed towards a children’s park, or the one pointing down my street
It’s objectively not. It has been shown to make anxiety, depression, and psychosis worse. And had been caught telling people struggling with suicidal idealization to commit. Not to mention all that data and those chats can be used against you, esp legally, or potentially for jobs. Do NOT use ai.
You are an idiot. The data centers are for the other kind of AI. Also the detection and imaging analysis are extremely inaccurate. They tested well because of poor testing materials. Generative AI is what everyone hates. It's what takes water, it's what sells your data, it's what has massive data centers. Stop defending AI when we are clearly talking about different AIs
Well, we can agree that cattle has a net positive though... AI is shitty AND using important resources. It's like playing Minecraft survival mode and your little sibling just starts making an infinite number of diamond hoes... like we need those diamonds buddy, and the hoe is the worst thing to use it on.
