My friend’s fiancé just finally found a job after being laid off last March as a chemical engineer. My fiancé, a pilot with enough flight hours logged, has been searching across the country for nearly a year with not even one interview. It’s the whole fucking market and it’s terrifying

I have emailed about 20 law firms and called about 10 more seeing if they have paralegal positions and not one has a position available. My entire county doesn't have an open position for a library assistant, only the county over has ONE part time opening.

Had no problem getting a job with my statistics MS, everyone I know is getting hired fairly easily in other fields as well (all STEM though)

Like I hate my job because it’s toxic and doesn’t pay nearly as much as it should, but I feel forced to stay because I’d be SOL if I quit.

It’s a general “nobody”. Obviously people are still getting jobs but even those in necessary, and understaffed fields are having major issues even getting a reply after countless applications.

It’s mostly white collar jobs suffering from this. Trades haven’t been affected at all

I know, many employers are being overly picky and making it hard for people with less experience to get positions. They want people with lots of experience but those people are in stable jobs and aren’t looking. I also know it’s not impossible to get something even if it’s bottom of the barrel

Overly pickey? You mean they want quality and experience?

lol I can’t win on this thread 😂 Sure, quality and experience are great qualities to have but what I’m saying is generally that person with 10 years in that field probably have a quality job they’re happy with and aren’t looking for a starting position in that field! I know I don’t have much experience with what OP is talking about, but then again I’m in an AG heavy part of America and going for an AG degree so I’m sure that makes a huge difference.

The place I started at I had the lowest ranked position you could say but after a couple years there and gaining seniority they were willing to train me into a higher position where I had little to no experience in. This was in highschool and a couple years into college I worked there. Sure my degree pertains to the place I worked but I still had zero qualifications for what I was learning to do
