I was raised in a christian family, schools, and churches. I studied the bible for 20 years. Every christian I knew has hurt me in some way either by judging, bullying, gaslighting, etc. I used to pray multiple times a day, never hearing or feeling like there was a god listening. As soon as I started praying/reaching out to other gods/spirits, I got immediate answers. I needed help and never once received help from the christian god. So I’m okay and spiritually okay without the Orthodox Church.
I am an atheist as well, and I don’t attribute it to a lack of exposure to Christianity, rather overexposure. Both my parents went to seminary and my father is a pastor. I have been to church more than some religious people I know. Through reading history books it’s pretty easy to tell that Christianity has caused a ton of horrible things in our world
Who says I never have? I have voiced my concerns to multiple priests including the ones at the churches I went to (primitive Baptist, Baptist, and catholic priests), young pasters, my christian parents and older christian family members, and multiple bible teachers at the christian schools I went to. They all either say “god works in mysterious ways” or “I’ll pray for you” never once have I received beneficial advice or guidance or knowledge to make me believe in christianity mythology
Also I have been to a few orthodox churches. I’ve been to and sought out SO many different denominations and type of churches trying to find one that was good and never once have I found one. I just ran out of characters in my response to mention every single type of church I’ve been to
Religious trauma can include being raped by a paster, being forced into a kneeling position at the alter and yelled at that you’re a disgusting sinner who deserves eternity in hell, or being told as a little kid all the different ways you’ll be tortured in hell in detail, or in my case, I was slapped by a preachers wife because I had a panic attack from public speaking. Just reading bible/attending church doesn’t always make ppl have religious trauma, but situations like what I explained does.
