This is a super hot take, but deep down, I believe in “eye for an eye” punishment. Like, if someone rapes and murders someone, they should receive the same treatment.

Sounds great until you find out through mew evidence they never did the crime, sometimes decades later.

This type of thought is based on emotions rather than logic. If someone harms someone else, and the perpetrator is harmed back as punishment, then end result is that two people have been harmed. I think a more reasonable solution would be reform the perpetrator into someone who does no more harm, e.g. remove them from society until they are ready to make positive societal contributions.
