When I think of south Africa and Rwanda, the first thing that comes to mind is apartheid in SA and the Rwandan genocide. This is bc they both literally ended in the 90s. So, if you’re 25+, and lived in either countries during those times, you might remember the atrocities. Basically, I don’t find it surprising that S. Africans are demanding ~reparations~

long: honestly it depends on your POV. you can view malema as a violent demagogue who seeks to kill all white south africans, or you can view him as a nutter who isn’t to be taken seriously. (he’s the one that boosts up “kill the boer”). we definitely are not being genocided YET, key word yet. personally if malema takes power, i will never go back to SA because of what he has said. i think trump is exaggerating slightly but it could scarily soon be a reality short: not really

It’s kinda crazy how Whte S. Africans own 70% of the land in a majority Black country

What’s your pov on my thoughts?

from a white south african POV, we do and don’t get it. for one, the vast majority of that 70% of land was unused and undeveloped when the boers arrived in the 1600s, and they cultivated it on their own (slavery was uncommon in SA, and banned in 1807). from their POV, they developed land that wasn’t being used and are confused as to why the black south africans think they deserve farmland they never cultivated

going off that, some white south africans do believe in land reform. however, government tie up’s prevent anything from actually happening, and the amount of us who support land reform are starting not to as the violence ramps up

the problem is most of the land reforms come at the complete disenfranchisement of white south africans, which we are against. we understand it was “their land” (even through we were here before the zulus actually), but nothing was being done with the land on a large scale until we arrived

I see, thank you for explaining! Definitely inspired me to read more about the history of white S Africans and land development.
