Finland was ranked happiest country for the 5th year in a row- they have a strong welfare system with free healthcare, education, and social services. Many other 1st world countries do too. Why do Americans think free healthcare would be a bad thing??

I do think it’s a bad thing. It’s redistribution of wealth (which is stealing) and typically results in longer wait times, lower quality of care, and either raises overall costs to the public (administrative costs) or reduces salaries to a point where doctors are less incentivized to enter the field.

“Free healthcare” is so much worse than you think. Tons of people dying in Canada and Europe because their doctor’s appt was too far away and whatever condition they had worsened quickly. And people in the US either get health insurance through work or through govt if they’re low income. Sounds fine to me, at least we get quick care

Finland also thinks circumcision is genital mutilation (which it is) and they don’t practice circumcision at all

i’ve heard this argument, which i sort of get. it can’t be “free,” it would just have to be paid for differently, in which case it would probably be our taxes paying for it, which means we’re paying for everyone’s healthcare, when a lot of people really only want to pay for their own

I think it’s a great idea but most people cannot afford to pay taxes as they are and start having payments for other people’s medical bills. I would be all for it if we could lower taxes and then open free healthcare. Also have it be so it works the same as taxes richer people pay more and poor people pay less.

I can’t find any studies supporting any of that. The opposite seems to be wildly true Also if you value billionaires hoarding their money over the needs of the people, you need to revalue your values

The marginal tax burden in Finland is a lot larger and extends down to lower income. The US is never going to do that.

Good points but I feel like these dont really apply to smaller & high-trust societies. This would most likely be the case if ever applied in the US sadly

To the person who got pissed off and told me to STFU for bringing this up, sorry but I think ending genital mutilation is important. Let’s not pretend it doesn’t exist.

Unfortunately and fortunately the US has the strongest military on the planet. This means they suck up a lot of money which makes our normal taxes pretty high. I would like to keep having a strong military so I’m willing to make the trade that I will work harder and achieve enough that I can help other people. And I think everyone else should do the same. That way we create a more socialist society on our own and not through the government.

It also stops people that don’t contribute to our society from mooching off everyone so they can live an easy life and do nothing.

Currently at least $20mil of our taxes are funding trumps birthday party and I’d personally much rather have that go towards healthcare for everyone (as a person who’s parents were teachers who could BARELY afford health insurance)

Most republicans would say they don’t like Trump spending that money on a bday party and would rather it not be spent at all. It’s a false dichotomy to say it must be spent on either his bday or “free” healthcare

Especially when so much taxpayer money is going towards funding trumps military themed birthday party! (Actual military parades are reserved for after a war is won)

A very large percentage of middle/lower class don’t qualify for government supplied healthcare and can’t afford insurance, and in those socioeconomic classes the jobs don’t usually provide healthcare. So a lot of us don’t get quick care or can’t afford care at all.

People don’t buy insurance outright, it’s an employment benefit. If you get a job that isn’t meant for a high school student then you almost definitely will have health insurance. Either way, I don’t think it’s fair for me to have to pay via taxes for the healthcare of people who don’t take preventative care seriously and never go for checkups. Their healthcare is very expensive

Being more concerned about the few poor who abuse the system when sooo much abuse is from the 1% is honestly concerning to me because the rich are just getting richer and live an easy life while we all struggle. Being poor isn’t living an easy life.

You’re assuming that all people who aren’t in your economic standing don’t take care of themselves and that’s pretentious and frankly rude. If you’d rather have your tax dollars go to trumps birthday party and sending military to US cities that arent in any state of crisis then there’s something wrong with your logic and your class bias.

Money always gets spent on one thing or another. It’s just redistributing wealth. So if it’s gonna go to something it should be something that helps people.

Did you read my first comment? The vast majority of republicans don’t like trump spending on those things. It’s a false dichotomy to act like it’s either the money gets spent on the parade or healthcare. It could just not be spent at all, that’s preferable. I didn’t say all poor people, but many are culturally untrusting of doctors and don’t go to checkups even if they have insurance. It’s just true, my mom has worked in health insurance data her whole life, and this difference is widely known

Trump and rich aren’t the problem. Who put them in power? Men 😉 Men are the problem.

You’re completely illogical and a waste of my time to talk to. Nobody “put” men or the rich in power. Men were in power because they’re physically stronger and women were preoccupied with child rearing, and the rich are necessarily powerful because they have tons of resources
