It should only really be used in the medical field for quick screening and as a search engine type deal

Call me crazy but i think the idea of having all of humanity replaced with mindless randomly generated junk (regardless of environmental impact) is horrific. But thats just me

Generative AI will never be sustainable and even if it did, if doesn’t fix the ethical problems with the fact that LLMs are plagiarism machines that work by essentially bullshitting as best they can, or the collective brain rot they are causing. There’s already studies that are coming out about the negative impact of AI on cognitive function. AI also replicates and even exaggerates societal biases that exist against marginalized groups like women and POC because of the data it’s trained on and 1

In which it won’t happen. Go tell the big companies pumping everything they have into AI to look at the ethics and come back to me.

It’ll happen (and is starting to happen) if it makes financial sense to do it more sustainably. All they care about is their bottom line.

The people in charge of training it, which is exacerbated by the fact that its adherents insist that it does the opposite. It’s worsened problems with employment discrimination and completely negatively disrupted the job app process on both ends. It’s also being used to fix prices for products and housing. AI use in classrooms has impeded learning even for students who don’t use it and devalued degrees because of the amount of plagiarism it encourages.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, but don’t pretend that the environment is the only problem or that if AI stopped destroying the planet (which it won’t) that would make it ethically defensable.

Totally hear your points. I’m an environmental nerd so what’s always been my main concern when it comes to AI but I hear you on the other points.
