
Wonderful point. I got curious so I did a little research. There’s a Pew article from Sept 2020 talking about the increase among that group of living at home that year (from 47% in Feb, 52% by Jul). It says 18-24 year olds accounted for 81%% of that growth. So in July 2020 it was 71% 18-24 and only 28% 25-29.
In 1900 it was 41% of 18-29 year olds. It peaked at 48% in 1940 before sharply decreasing; no doubt, the aftermath of WWII. And ever since its lowest point of 29% in 1960, it’s been steadily rising. Back up to 38% by 2000 and only surpassing the pre-WWII high of 48; no doubt, due to the Covid Shutdowns…
