Maybe an unpopular take? Idk. People who wholeheartedly hate AI and refuse to utilize it will be left in the past. That said, those who rely on it too much will get an opposite and worse effect (the inability to think). There is a goldilocks zone, I feel.

I truly do not believe generative ai should be available for public use there is nothing we have to do in our daily lives that we need it for and by using it we’re sacrificing our autonomy and freedom of thought

AI is not this evil robot tool that will take over the world. A nobel prize winner himself said that it is the humans who are going to take advantage of its existence by utilizing it for selfish purposes. yes, there are concerns with the AIs ‘autonomy’ but it is not evil.

I have always had the argument that AI is no different than any other tool we’ve utilized. People thought google was going to end human civilization as we know it and now it’s the most utilized tool we know. If we use it correctly it can do great things, if we abuse it, it will have an effect. The headlines and horror stories, are showing the flaws in our society, not that AI is inherently bad. It’s always user error.

I hate ai because of the environmental impacts

Honestly, I think the people who hate ai now would be the same people who hated machines when they first became normalized

Also I think the people hating it don’t understand that ai has already been used for a while. Autocorrect, Spotify recommendations, Amazon recommendations and I don’t think they had a problem with that

I don’t care about any of this. I care about it actively ruining the earth and the speeds it’s doing so

i agree with this… As someone who hates AI because of its environmental impacts, and detriment to art, I am okay with being left behind.

It’s useful in those contexts but isn’t now that the gimmicky aspects are being forced into everything and outputting shit.

I only hate AI since it will lead to a decrease in critical thinking skills since many students use it to cheat on assignments. Other uses of AI like autocorrect and algorithms for ads are useful and I am perfectly fine with that. AI itself is not a bad thing but the way people use it makes it bad. And, many jobs where you can just put in a formula or a couple numbers will be taken over by AI since it’s cheaper than employees.

You should start naming everything with a negative environmental impact and hate that too. dumbass argument

AI is on a way larger scale of impact though, please do your research… at least we are doing what we can to save the earth because every little but counts. By reducing/not using AI when possible, it’s doing your part. Some environmental harm is inevitable, but I try to reduce when I can. Remember it’s reduce first… then reuse and recycle.

Most of that is caused by industrial-scale use of AI, not individual chatbot use

i see your point. in that same vein, how do you feel about the negative impact you are having on the environment as you use the internet and a cell phone? i also wonder about the transportation you use.

Exactly, not to mention the environmental impact. The only acceptable use of it so far imo is for medical purposes in helping to do things like identify cancerous cells

Exactly! And when AI gets to the point that residents of a town are told to cut back on showers because of the water consumption being funnelled to the centres, that’s a huge issue.

I personally like how my drs use it during follow ups, bc they don’t always catch all the random symptoms I remember throughout the appointment, but the AI does. It helps keep my drs accountable.

People hating are usually specifically talking about generative ai. They often don’t specify, but it’s pretty easy to figure out that’s what they mean.
