Dumb argument. Most Muslim countries are wholly reliant on Western support in some form (defense, tech, free handouts). Saudi has a 50 billion USD military budget and buys fancy military tech from the U.S. Most are incapable of running their country without Western support.

I think saying 'Middle Eastern countries have always been like this' is a bit of a generalization. Many people in the region including in Israel and Iran want peace. Governments are not the same as their citizens, and cycles of violence tend to repeat not because of culture, but because of power, trauma, and geopolitics. I just don't think escalation makes anyone safer in the long run.

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #12 14w

What Netanyahu and the Israeli gov is choosing to do with that power is just causing more destabilization in the region. Diplomacy makes way more sense than domination, especially when nukes are involved.

It’s the most unstable region in human history, Israel isn’t changing anything. They’re just making sure the Arab world stops messing with them

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 14w

I think it's fair to say that any country has a right to defend itself, including both Israel and Iran. But justifying every attack by saying “they started it” doesn't help. There has been geopolitical conflict in the region for years. Both sides have provoked each other over the years, and escalation just keeps hurting civilians. I don't think picking a side based on who's 'allowed' to be violent really leads to peace.

upvote 4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 14w

They should use their power to cultivate peace instead of creating more conflict IMO

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 14w

I completely agree, however it’s gotta end somehow, and since it’s never stopped with Israel holding back, it’s clear they’re done messing around. You have a valid point, but I just don’t think that’s the reality of the situation, and idt israel thinks that either

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 14w

I hear you and I get that people want the conflict to end decisively, but I don't think this will bring real resolution. Historically, escalation just perpetuates the cycle of violence especially for civilians. If holding back didn't bring peace, going all in probably won't either. I just think the best way to handle things would be to address the root causes in order to prevent the cycle of violence from continuing

upvote 4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 14w

And since Israel is the one with the most power, it seems like they could use that power to cultivate peace instead of the cycle continuing

upvote 5 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 14w

What is the root cause?

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 14w

Well they are in a way. Every time the Arabs forget about their last defeat and a new leader starts making them do the war dance, Israel just does a few precise military strikes and averts full scale war.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 14w

From what I understand, the conflict started because the Iranian government opposed Israel’s occupation of Palestine and has supported armed resistance efforts against Israel. It has continued because Iran has refused to recognize Israel as a state because they don’t want to normalize Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine. I get both sides—Israel is scared because they are surrounded by groups that are hostile toward them and Iran opposes Israel’s unchecked military aggression in the region.

upvote 2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 14w

The aggression has historically only gone unchecked when Hamas does a surprise attack. Hamas is egos weaker than Israel, so it’s kind of a joke, and Israel easily retaliates. The entire Arab world used to be against Israel, and now it’s just Hamas and Iran. Israel is so close to peace, and two very weak groups stand in their way. Their military tactics have worked against 90% of the Arab world, and only Hamas and Iran stand in the way now

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 14w

Its a bad cycle. I just don’t see how peace could ever be reached if the Israeli government/military is treating Palestinian civilians the way that they are. They should treat them fairly and see them as the innocent people they are. I don’t think there is a good excuse for Israel to target civilian infrastructure the way they do. Iran will never be open to negotiating peace as long as Israel is doing what is being done to civilians in Gaza.

upvote 3 downvote

Israel could be openly willing to treat Palestinian civilians fairly and use their military power to pressure Iran to agree to peace. But they never will with the way things are because of the injustice

Most countries that were colonized by Western countries had their institutions purposely undermined by Western colonial powers. Colonizers came in and destabilized their self-sufficient economies by pulling them into the global capitalist market.
