Why do all white women magically decide when it’s okay to use AAVE but when black people do it’s ghetto speech. This is mostly towards women bc most white men aren’t as desperate to fit in as the girls, I prefer the open racism honestly😭

This is going to sound lame but I think some this, at least in my experience, is bc of the internet. Like, I’ve had it happen a couple of times where I was using AAVE terms that I didn’t even realize came from AAVE just because of how frequently I encountered them online

Respectfully the white men are just as bad if not worse, let’s not let them off the hook now

I get what you’re saying but… “I prefer the open racism” ???

AAVE has roots from all over, including from england and the caribbean, so i would say you’re free to use whatever language/vernacular you want. i think what OP is saying is that you shouldn’t use AAVE, but then turn around and say it’s ghetto when black people do it. i believe OP is just pointing out some hypocrisy and racism.

Exactly my point thank you, if everyone stopped using the same slang I think it would be less fun honestly, but the double standard isn’t fair either.

i think that white women are more “sneaky” and indirect, although still racist. men are just more upfront and direct abt it. so strictly in terms of what op was saying i believe yes it should be directed mostly towards women

OP said it was about being “desperate to fit in” and I think that’s 100% true, I just think white men do it just as much, especially in terms of appropriating AAVE. We have all met a Chet Hanks type.

I’m not saying let the women off the hook I just think there’s this weird trend I’ve seen recently of people being significantly more ok with white men being racist than white women and I feel like they should be under just as much scrutiny

Honest I feel like white men have been under scrutiny for a while while white women were seen as a minority because they’re women so they get a bit of slack

Sure, my point is to continue scrutinizing the white men just as much.

For the most part yeah, but white male comedians are so funny when they say racist shit to a crowd

it’s just a language, anyone can use it. it’s when they use it, then turn around and call black people ghetto when they use it. i’m not saying men don’t use it, which they def do, it’s just that you’ll see them calling black people ghetto for using it less often compared to women.

Should clarify that I mean it’s not my experience that women do it more. White people in general do that it’s not a gendered thing. I think we are primed to notice when women do it because of longstanding stereotypes about them being sneaky or two faced, but fact is both do it.
