Left leaning Christian here: Jesus doesn’t hate but he would be against their beliefs. One of the main values of Christianity is to “love thy neighbor”—you can disagree but hate isn’t something that Christians should have against others. Hate is something born from the Devil. “Hate is the heart of sin.” Also, we need to remember that republican≠maga, Trump ruined the Republican Party’s reputation with his idiocy and equally idiotic followers.
Jesus sure as fuck hated the actions of those who exploited the poor and working class. Matthew 21:12–13, Mark 11:15–17, Luke 19:45–46, John 2:13–16 all of which basically culminated in the plot to have him crucified. Jesus was a socialist who was executed for his beliefs in challenging the ruling class/religious authority’s power.
Jesus also said to forgive your brother not 7 times but 77 times. He ate with prostitutes, lepers, and tax collectors. When he died on the cross he forgave the criminal next to him who was being justly punished. He gave the wealthy the chance to follow him and, when he was sent to be executed, did not raise a hand against his oppressors. Perhaps most telling, upon his death, he asks forgiveness from God for those persecuting him.
Jesus did not respond to hate with hate. That would have been a corruption of his mission. He responded to hate with love, regardless of how he was scorned or mistreated. The whole point of his ministry was to teach us how to know God and love each other. He explicitly states these two as the most important commandments. Saying Jesus would “hate hate you if you’re republican” is a corruption of his teachings and evidence that you don’t fully understand the core of his ideas.
Furthermore, arguing Jesus was a socialist, communist, capitalist, or whatnot doesn’t make sense. Jesus never explicitly claimed to support any modern political or economic system. Attributing them to him is both anachronistic and forces modern ideas onto an ancient context. Furthermore, as a perfect being, it wouldn’t make sense for Jesus to support flawed human systems as doing so would contradict his nature…
… Jesus was someone who transcended political pettiness and who meant his message for everyone. He illustrates this by refusing to make his ministry about politics, telling people to give Caesar what is his and give God what is God’s. Claiming “Jesus was a socialist” or “Jesus was a capitalist” imposes modern politics on someone whose teachings were clearly meant to transcend them and reduces his message to a political ideology rather than a broad message for all.
Yet loving thy neighbor means loving those we don’t like. In your case, it would mean loving republicans even though you disagree with them. In their case, it would mean loving democrats and immigrants even though they disagree with them. Jesus preached a universal love amongst humans. Picking and choosing who we love or claiming “Jesus would hate these people but love the others” ignores his actual message.
And Democrats are just as bad as republicans, which is why I don’t identify with either party. Both sides endorse Israel’s activities and both sides have caused harm to both American citizens and innocent people overseas. Rather than saying Jesus would hate republicans, I think he would condemn anyone that is encouraging the atrocities happening in our world today. Whatever party you’re in doesn’t really matter if you’re a terrible person.
How is this cherry picked 💀 Jesus literally said the most important thing we can do is love one another directly after loving God. Sounds like you’ve never actually read the bible. And babes you fall into that immoral demographic ❤️ we all do. Since everyone is a sinner. But not every one of us insists we aren’t and then goes out and calls for human rights to be stripped away.
