Basically. I live in California and I'm actually so jealous of people who live out there. I just want my own place

Cali is so expensive it’s probably easier to move bc everything is cheap in comparison

For starters, it’s quite beautiful and peaceful. To be more specific, I think the best place to live is in the Eastern Panhandle because you’re basically in the center between major cities and have more poc, so you don’t have as much racism as other areas. A lot of people move to WV there, but work in Virginia or Maryland. That way their cost of living is way cheap while making decent money. My parents’ mortgage is $2100 but have a house with 2 levels + basement, a driveway, a garage,

And a decent-sized front and backyard. The downside is that there really isn’t shit there, so it can be boring and there’s not much jobs in the state itself. But like I said, if you’re in the Eastern Panhandle, you could easily just go to Maryland or Virginia for stuff. Maryland is like 30mins from me. Minimum wage is $also 8.75, but it honestly does depend on the county. For example, jobs in Cabell county usually have a $10/hr base pay

The downside (or upside, depends on you) is that you’re actually in the Whitest state in the US. The population is ~97% White. So you can expect racism ofc and MAGA, but this is less common in the Eastern Panhandle due to a higher population of poc than other counties. A lot of the population is pretty secluded from the world. There are villages too small to be counties. There’s people in the mountains who’ve never left them. A lot of them have never even met a brown person

Low cost of living, 2 big cities (Kansas City and St. Louis) a few smaller but nice cities, lots of natural beauty (ie not flat), it’s also the intersection of the Midwest and the south

A lot of people live off the land. There are a lot of caves here, both discovered and hidden. If you wanted to disappear or go off grid, this is the place to do it. The state has different climates depending on your area because the Appalachian mountains go through it. Some highways go so high in the mountains, you’ll be driving through actual clouds. The Eastern Panhandle doesn’t really have to worry about tornadoes because it’s in a valley—it’s flooding you need to be worried about

That sounds like it’s beautiful land! I definitely think the thing holding me back would be the would be the diversity/ political climate. But the idea of having so much space for so cheap sounds amazing

Well yeah none of these ppl are making the decision for me I just wanted opinions and create an opinion discussion where ppl can talk about places they’ve lived. It’s not that deep But you have a stick up your ass with ā€œfigure it out yourselfā€

are u gonna ask for advice on every major decision in your life? or do u want to be independent?

Anonymous replying to -> #3 10w

Independence doesn’t mean not taking others advice and input. I’m not asking anyone to pay my bills just wanted to know what other walks of life was like to take into account when I move. I’ve personally researched dozens of cities but sometimes it’s good to get opinions you’ve never heard before. Idk why you think talking to ppl about their life experiences and opinions makes you weak and dependent on others

Anonymous replying to -> OP 10w

ur making leaps in logic i didn’t even get close to implying. chill. but thats the thing tho, everyone has their own walk in life so it just circles back to my other point. the thing is though is that ur an adult now so you need to learn how to be able to make these decisions without asking everyone all the time. learn for yourself, experience the results of your decisions yourself, become a person independent from others thoughts and experiences.

Why do you assume I ask everyone for everything all the time. I am a full time student and I work, my shit is in fact together. I literally just wanted to know about what cities ppl would recommend moving too. I’m incredibly independent but just wanted to have a fun conversation on an anon thread. You are a miserable person.
