Can someone explain why people are saying she “doesn’t understand hamlet”? I saw someone say it was because Ophelia doesn’t live a happy life but like… that’s the point

It’s very odd to me that she picked a character that went insane bc of the men in her life to tell the story that a man saved her. Like I get reworking stories and changing endings to fit her life but it seems so male centered to say that a man saved you from insanity. And I wish she could’ve used a different character for her story. The song is still a bop but this is just my opinion

Because she’s saying that he’s the reason she didn’t end up the same way, that’s the whole point of the song… is the issue really just that her fiancee saved her from giving up on love or am I not understanding

My issue is that she took a woman who was driven into madness by her father and her lover and turned it into the subject of a love song. Why not use rapunzel? Psyche? And it’s so weird that a billionaire could only be saved by a man. It just comes across as very pick me and male centered to me. You may interpret it differently but this is my interpretation of it

She’s saying she was being driven to the same fate, saying that she thought she was going mad in the same way as Ophelia UNTIL she found love and a forever companion and avoided the same fate of madness because of it. It’s not male centered or pick me to write about finding love with a man like come ON

The eras tour didn’t save her? Getting her masters back? The success of the re-recording project? To me it sounds like she’s really thought dating the guy on the football team was the greatest thing she could do. Also if she wanted to use Ophelia, she should’ve done a song about Kanye or scooter and scott to show how the men in her life drove her insane.

Hamlet literally gaslit Ophelia and told her he never loved her… and she literally said she changed the ending bc she thought they’d be cute together? I don’t think she’s read it tbh
