Its first perspective is Scott, which is the first two verses. He’s coming from the perspective of the predatory mentor type who is luring in a new protege. This mentor is always condescending and pushing down on the protege in some way. At the end though, at the “I WAS your father figure” (key word being was) and then on, that’s when the protege takes perspective. The protege is referring to Taylor probably, but could be more generalized. Here, it says that in reality, I had the power.
Sorry not enough words. By the end of the song it is shown that the protege had all the power because the empire belonged to her (presumably her masters, music, and fans). So in reality, the protege was the real “father figure” here because they were the one really providing here and had the empire as it says in the song.
