There is no such thing as a stupid question, there’s just such thing as an unnecessarily rude person. No, the term “Easter egg” was invented in 1979 with an Atari game, not 100% sure which one it was, but I think it was Adventure. I learned that from the movie Ready Player One.

It might’ve just become more widely used as Taylor got more popular and known for leaving them everywhere
