I need to vent. I am annoyed that in new Taylor songs we don’t get a lot of vocal expression. Like, home girl used to put her belting lines at the FRONT of the music arrangement. Now, I have to listen so intently to try and hear her do something more…

Vocally interesting. Like I’m listening to I Knew You Were Trouble right now, and she used to let us HEAR IT… you know? Like I feel like off TLOAS the most belt-y front and center vocal display I hear is in the bridge on title track. I would LOVE to hear her express some more of her warmth and higher notes in a similar style that Renee Rapp does. Ok I’m done now.

I’ve been feeling this way since folklore tbh. It works for folklore and evermore since those are more laid back and storytelling vibes, and I think the lyrics shine enough without vocal expression. It’s really missing (and noticeable) on Midnights and on. While there are some lyrical masterpieces on midnights and TTPD, the production and weaker vocals don’t do the songs justice

Also, I kinda see it on the TVs. Speak now and 1989 are probably the best examples of it. You can tell that her voice has improved a lot from the original speak now but she just sounds so bored. Same with 1989 (esp when she sings “we’re all bored” in New Romantics tv, it makes me wonder if she got a little bored with re-recording her work)

Also why I’m a little scared for debut tv. I love debut and I think it could be amazing with her mature vocals but I hope her voice is expressive in it

I actually don’t see that! This makes me want to relisten to og speak now and 1989 and compare them, but I know I prefer the TV of New Romantics cause she just sounds so much more polished and I still get the “rage against the young adult machine” vibe even more
