Yes the Lumineers song is also referencing hamlet. It’s about being so mentally ill that you drown yourself. It is often talked about when analyzing hamlet that Ophelia drowned on purpose, and that love caused her to off herself. Ophelia was forbidden from seeing Hamlet and that drove a wedge in their relationship causing her to die

So my guess is the fate of Ophelia will be about her relationship with Matty and how the fans “forbid her from seeing him” and how that caused the death in some version of herself causing her to fully embrace this persona of the showgirl
