Here’s a mind-boggling thought: it can be both at the same time! In fact, Taylor is very good at that. Take Blank Space — it’s both an authentic look into her psyche, and also a biting satire of the sexism and impossible standards she faces.
I’m confused, is this album supposed to be authentic or satirical?

I see it with blank space, but not so much with this album. I also think satire should speak for itself- the only people who didn’t think blank space was satire were the trolls. But it’s not as obvious with showgirl, and if you have to go around saying it’s satire, it wasn’t executed very well. But again, this is just my opinion and how i view satire

Eldest Daughter can be directly compared to Blank Space, and so can Father Figure. Both songs have deep truths wrapped inside a layer of satirical language, and it seems clear to me. Other songs, like Ophelia and Opalite, are just love songs, of course. Not every song here is satire, but the ones that are very good
