I’m thrilled she’s happy, but happiness and good lyricism aren’t mutually exclusive. The album has nice vibes and it’s fun and catchy, and I don’t “shit on this album” just for the sake of it. But what sets her apart is her ability to use really clever and poetic metaphors, layered wordplay, and vivid imagery to voice messy and complex feelings with elegance. That’s just not really present here. Instead it’s innuendos and weird uses of slang and a bluntness in delivery that’s jarring.
i think people shitting on the album and saying it’s just downhill from here, that travis is the reason the lyrics aren’t as complex as TTPD, that she “lost her dictionary”, is completely different than people just disliking it and stating that fact - and that is what OP is getting at. or at least my interpretation of the post
exactly! i’m sorry but with it being a glitter pen, i was never expecting that lyricism. i also think people like to speculate what they think it will be like ( like we all do as swifties), but if it isn’t exactly what they want, they hate it and completely turn on her so fast. it just makes me sad bc in multiple interviews she talked about how proud she was of this album. i think we have learned not all of her songs are everyone’s cup of tea, that’s why each album is different
i do think some of the lyrics were good. did i love every song, no, i didn’t expect to. TTPD was more lyrics, less vocals than other albums. this is more vocals. each one is different and everyone has their own opinions. you can say you don’t like it. the issue is people insulting taylor and travis saying she “got dumb hanging around the jocks” or “he no longer knows how to ball and she no longer knows Aristotle”
