honestly really disappointing to see so many people sh*ting on this album when she’s said multiple times she’s never been this happy. if it’s not your vibe then just let it be. allow some of us to be happy and grateful

obviously it’s not TTPD or folklore lyricism because she’s not depressed anymore! like i understand it might not be your vibe but for us love girls this was banger after banger with maybe 1-2 skips

people disliking an album does not mean that they’re upset that taylor is happy. if you genuinely think like that you’re probably 14 years old

I’m thrilled she’s happy, but happiness and good lyricism aren’t mutually exclusive. The album has nice vibes and it’s fun and catchy, and I don’t “shit on this album” just for the sake of it. But what sets her apart is her ability to use really clever and poetic metaphors, layered wordplay, and vivid imagery to voice messy and complex feelings with elegance. That’s just not really present here. Instead it’s innuendos and weird uses of slang and a bluntness in delivery that’s jarring.

Glad that she’s happy, but it doesn’t change the fact that this album isn’t good

okay well that’s not what i meant. it’s just sad to see so many people hating when she’s finally made a happy and carefree album. obviously everyone is allowed to have their own opinions but straight up shitting on it is crazy to me

it’s great that she’s happy that doesn’t mean her album is good. the entire point of music is for it to be consumed and that equals it being critiqued

i think people shitting on the album and saying it’s just downhill from here, that travis is the reason the lyrics aren’t as complex as TTPD, that she “lost her dictionary”, is completely different than people just disliking it and stating that fact - and that is what OP is getting at. or at least my interpretation of the post

no one expected another folklore. doesn’t mean we can’t expect the lyrics to be good lol

exactly! i’m sorry but with it being a glitter pen, i was never expecting that lyricism. i also think people like to speculate what they think it will be like ( like we all do as swifties), but if it isn’t exactly what they want, they hate it and completely turn on her so fast. it just makes me sad bc in multiple interviews she talked about how proud she was of this album. i think we have learned not all of her songs are everyone’s cup of tea, that’s why each album is different

the lyrics might not have been 100% but i think if you understand and enjoy this album they make sense. just my opinion

this was my main point thank you. she’s so proud and all i’ve seen is hate. if it’s not your cup of tea move on tbh. i personally love this album

i do think some of the lyrics were good. did i love every song, no, i didn’t expect to. TTPD was more lyrics, less vocals than other albums. this is more vocals. each one is different and everyone has their own opinions. you can say you don’t like it. the issue is people insulting taylor and travis saying she “got dumb hanging around the jocks” or “he no longer knows how to ball and she no longer knows Aristotle”

The song that (imo, obviously) had the most effort put into it is Fate of Ophelia. I like how she uses the character as a metaphor for herself and her feelings, and in the bridge (‘tis locked inside my memory) almost quotes Shakespeare directly and it’s clever.
