Random observation: I feel like most transmascs I know have a tendency to come out when they start T or even before whereas most transfems I know are on e for months if not years before coming out and I just think this is interesting.I myself am a counter to this observation, I came out prior to starting hormones, but yeah idk just seems interesting. My theory is that being a trans masc/man that doesn't pass (being perceived as a masc woman) is more socially acceptable by heteronormative society than being a trans woman that doesn't pass (being perceived as a feminine man)
I’ve seen a lot of “you can’t start T before telling your loved ones your voice will drop and they WILL find out” in FTM subreddits and seemingly less of that in MTF communities and more going on hormones while closeted. I definitely don’t hang around MTF communities as much though, so this could just be the sampling I saw.
Adding to that theory, I think in some instances it’s easier for trans mascs/men to pass, especially if you’re less curvy. Binding, baggy clothes, cutting your hair, and pitching your voice down are all some people have to do, versus trans femmes/women have more hurdles, hair takes longer to grow than it does to cut, more angler faces are seen as masculine vs round face could just be a baby face, adding padding is more difficult that hiding curves, etc.
