It becomes a question of whether they’re asking for your *legal* name. Separate from real or “preferred”

“my legal name is ‘this’/‘on the document’ but i go by ‘this’” is what i use almost exclusively and no one has ever had an issue with it + i don’t have to say anything that outs me directly

you can probably say something like "my name is <name> but it might show up on file as <legal name> because thats whats listed as my name on my legal documents" if that works (but if you live in an area where they log your name and not just the legal one then you dont have to do this)
