didn’t find it funny, but I also didn’t really find it offensive so much as just corny I figure part of growing & maturing as a trans man is learning to recognize the difference between 1) instances of legit anti-transmasculinity and 2) situations where we should be able to take a light joke at men’s expense without it getting under our skin. this is imo solidly a case of #2

I’m NB and found it funny in the sense of “ooo women prettyyyyyy” and that’s just how I took it and moved on, I didn’t really see an issue with transphobia or transmisogyny

“Imagine if you flipped the genders” It would have a whole different implication because these are two different groups that face different forms of oppression in our society.

Yeah I didn’t find it funny either! Either the joke is that that is exactly how society treats us in the closet (and uh, frankly, after coming out as well), or the joke is that they want us to be forced back into those roles post-transition. I was wondering if the people upvoting it were feeling as though they were aligning with the trans man or the trans woman and I figured this was the best way to do it that would actually get people to respond honestly. My gf found it unspeakably gross too

You understand that trans men are told to serve the people in their life both before and after coming out, right? Like that’s actually a big way people oppress trans men and keep them from accessing transition? You understand that recycling misogynistic language about "serving" others with an intentional romantic/sexual spin to apply to a group that, literally, receives that kind of messaging daily, is not progressive or funny or cool or subversive at all?

well a large majority of the community believe “men bad, woman good”, so i’m not surprised that it had that many upvotes. we’re viewed unfairly before transition and jokes like that reinforce the idea that it’s still okay to view us unfairly simply because we transitioned, imo

Yeah... I just expected better I guess. Fascinating that #4 straight up admits it wouldn't be funny if the roles were reversed, but it's perfectly acceptable this way. Because see, when the joke is being mean to women, it’s obviously misogynistic, but when the joke is being mean to trans men, who have been told *literally this* forever, it’s funny! I just wish things were different.

not surprised, just disappointed. i am proud of my transition and the work it took to get me to where i am now. jokes like that are largely a reason why i no longer associate much with the lgbt community
