Hi! I am 20 and amab. I’ve felt for years now that I have always felt weird about my gender and how I fit into society as a “man”, and for the past two years I’ve had a constant thought that I may in fact be trans. I’m very confused and would love advice

it can get very overwhelming at first, just focus on a few important things & work through them instead of overextending

I recc first trying things with presentation (e.g. name, pronouns, clothes, haircut etc) since they’re much simpler than figuring out your internal identity right away. you can always identify as “genderqueer” & engage in multiple spaces before you stick with any one framework

that said, educating yourself on what you *can* be & do is really important at this stage. for resources, I recc The Gender Book (free if you look up “The Gender Book Gumroad”) & look at the Trevor Project’s resources page—the “ally to trans & nonbinary” one is actually really good as a starter, since it covers a lot of basic info

What do I do if I’m so insecure about it that there’s really nowhere i feel comfortable doing any of that..

I felt like this at first, to the point that I didn’t even want to change my pronouns in an anonymous online space… so I tried it with myself, first. iirc I wrote a journal entry addressed to myself, talking in the third person. it felt weird and kind of cringe, but that’s what I was comfortable with, and it helped me get more comfortable with thinking of myself as not-a-guy

That sounds possible, thank you. If its alright to ask, are you on hrt? At what point does hrt sound like the right option?

I’m on HRT, yeah (2.5 years now). getting it safely & affordably heavily depends on your circumstances, but the first (obvious) step is knowing if you want it. for me, I made a list of pros/cons for the bodily changes & decided that the cons were vastly outweighed by the pros, even as a non-binary person who didn’t want some of the changes

and mind you, if you think you might want HRT, it’s a good idea to get yourself in the position to start it (i.e. researching it & potential providers & how you can pay for it). it makes it a lot more realistic

That makes sense, i think pretty soon I’ll actually mention all this to my current therapist and see what my options are
