I’m doing that and I’ve been doing it for 8ish years now. You gotta be ok with just socially transitioning and not starting HRT yet, I’m gonna start T when I move away from home and get my own insurance but right now if I want to stay somewhat closeted towards family I can’t start it. Also make sure you’re only coming out to people you know won’t out you to family
It depends on your specific situation. Definitely try socially first, and live that double life thing. Preferably, be financially/mentally secure. I personally am neither and I started T anyway because I was on the verge of death. I know that there are dangerous situations and nuance but I feel like when people tell others to be stable in life before starting physical transition, they need to realize that the first danger can sometimes be yourself/ your dysphoria.
if you want to start t, you can run your prescriptions through a third party service like folx or plume. planned parenthood generally is really understanding abt not wanting to bill insurance, but if you fill a prescription at a pharmacy it is Very high risk that they'll send it through insurance.
I’ve been living a double life socially for 6 years, now 1 year physically (on T) because the changes are able to be hidden for me, but you also cannot predict what exactly will happen on ANY dosage of T as everyone is different/absorbs it differently. My answer was mainly about physical transition, but social transition is much easier to manage and be fluid about in terms of home life!
