being horny is a normal part of the human experience, especially since yikyak is mostly college students

There’s already spaces to be horny in tho. There’s trans sex advice

This isn’t the space for it, and minors are allowed on this app I can’t confirm who is or isn’t a legal adult, we have had incidents of people being talked into sharing nudes but you can’t send pictures in DMs so they made a private group chat and then as soon as this user sent their nudes the other user invited a ton of people to it. Sometimes it escalates to people trying to meet and I can’t guarantee everyone involved is a safe person. There’s too many variables so there is a hard ban rule

coercive DMs are gonna remain a serious problem on YY in general regardless of whether or not posts in this group include mention of anything sexual. censorship of public interactions is not the solution here if you don’t want people posting suggestive thirst traps due to the presence of minors then that’s perfectly reasonable ofc, but ā€œhorny postingā€ is an extraordinarily imprecise thing to ban, especially when discussion of sexual subjects is straightforwardly permitted under TOS

Discussion of it is fine, just no soliciting. I wouldn’t consider that censorship or if it is I think that’s fine too. I work closely with yikyak admin and they’re fine with me moderating more strictly than TOS, if someone gets banned for asking someone to fuck in this community they’ll still be able to use yikyak to go be horny somewhere else

And I also just think thirst trap posts are kinda raunchy in a way I don’t want in this community. Brings the wrong kind of vibe

sexual discussions permitted on general TOS, but are off-topic to this community & generally against the rules. and we can ban people for DMs as well, so it will not remain a serious problem here if people continue reporting stuff to us.

people can be horny while using the proper spaces. Trans Sex Advice is explicitly for people who are horny, and it requires a college email to view—this community does not.

oh, ā€œno soliciting sexual attentionā€ and ā€œno thirst trapsā€ is totally sensible. I think ā€œhorny postingā€ is just worded a bit too vaguely when we’re discussing what is and isn’t permitted

huh? gipsum said just a few minutes before you that discussions of sexual topics here Are acceptable

conversations about subjects related to sexuality that are still specifically about our experience as trans people (and which don’t veer into smutty or lascivious territory) are not off-topic here

I think boomy meant to say the same thing I did. We also moderate based off of the energy we want the community to have, not just objective ā€œdoes this follow the rule or notā€ so sometimes a post is technically not soliciting but has rancid vibes and we ditch it

I’m mostly onboard with what you’re saying, but vibes-based moderation sounds kinda like power-tripping to me. not trying to be contrarian, just trying to understand the actual guidelines here and am uneasy with the ambiguity of ā€œwhatever we say goes, even if it’s not an actual ruleā€

sexual discussions as in discussing having sex with each other. discussions on sexuality is and has always been allowed.

there’s three of us, and we’ve been doing this for years with no complaints ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ we’re only liberal with bans when people break the rules on sexual solicitations—a measure meant to allow us to discuss gender w/o being sexualized (which used to be an issue). the rules are very clear, and Gipsum’s posts on the rules are the first ones anyone sees when they press on this community.

outside of sexual solicitations, we’re more conservative with moderation, normally only removing comments/posts if people aren’t discussing in good faith. that’s inherently vibes-based, and people trust our discretion on that. it’s not like we remove w/o discussion: I’ve sent a DM to every person I could detailing why their message was removed.

we also have a larger group of people from the community that we consult with especially complicated situations. generally, we’re held very accountable lol. our moderation primarily just sets a precedent that 99% of the people follow, so we’re not very hands-on since everyone’s pretty chill here by now

I think the difference between power tripping and aggressive/proactive moderation is basically outcome based. When someone makes a post that comes across as rude I make a point to dm the OP and let them know that the post is within the rules but we’d appreciate if they reposted it with a more sensible wording, or we remove posts that make the board a more depressing or angry place. I used to be very hands off early in this community and it turned into the reason for trans positivity existing

And we only ban people who habitually abuse the community, and try to shut things down with a two week timeout

I think the part about sexual solicitation is sensible, and when it’s phrased that way I agree that it’s worded clearly. ā€œhorny postingā€ was imo vague but since y’all patiently explained that this was just intended as reinforcing the rules that are already posted, I get it

idk how I feel about judging posts on the metric of ā€œmaking the board a more depressing placeā€, but I do appreciate the elaboration
