trans men/mascs who have had a gyno appt while passing as a man — how was it?? i turn 21 soon and need a pap due to history of cancer but am so scared based off of all the awkward encounters i’ve heard of on tiktok 😭 like i have a whole ass beardI had a good experience! I got really lucky to live in a pretty accepting area, and got in with a (lesbian, coincidentally) obgyn who specifically welcomes trans people. The clinic was still very much geared towards women and pregnancy, but the check-in process was smooth and she was very nice. If it seems like they're treating you poorly and like they'd do a bad job of the pap smear, you can always ask for a different trans-friendly doctor to do the procedure, or walk out
I've also heard that bringing someone else (who passes or is seen as a woman) with you can be helpful. If you check in together, then they can assume whoever they want is doing the actual appointment. That helps less with the doc, but if you bring someone who has had a pap smear done, then they can also look out for you during the procedure and generally be an advocate. Ik that can be kinda uncomfortable to ask of people, but that’s always an option (& ppl might be more open to it than u think)
damn 😭 yeah it’s red as fuck out here. i’m actually one of the two directors for district four w/ the young democrats of arkansas and it’s def been a bit of a struggle to find folks to start new chapters — esp in your area. we have one at OBU, im working on starting one at henderson and ASMSA, and have two more leads in hot springs tho so fingers crossed 🤞
