can someone explain the whole “bloodless period” thing for medically transitioning transfems? I used the term for myself (since I thought I might’ve been feeling awful recently because of it), and my partner got ticked off at me for using the phrase

i don't know why it happens, but it seems like some people on e can get the cramping and mood effects of a period without the whole egg release part. i think your partner maybe has some internal stuff they're dealing with in relation to this, and it came out on you. like, im assuming, but maybe they only see periods as a painful, awful thing, and seeing someone experiencing it as a neutral/positive thing, esp w/o the most striking visual part, can be Loaded.

like they said I shouldn’t say it because it was misleading and that people only used it as a “your curse could have been my salvation” thing (aka bc they thought trans women used the term because it gave gender euphoria, ig)

it’s pmsing which makes it scientifically accurate to say your having a period but socially inaccurate to say your having a period. that’s where most people’s issues with it come from

Why did your partner get mad? As ftm who has a lot of period problems and suspected endo, I only empathize with you and not be mad at you for getting literal period cramps. Btw, u can still have bloodless periods if ur not a trans woman.

basically asking about the difference between what I’m experiencing & a blooded period, since I’m struggling to find a good one-to-one comparison to tell if “bloodless period” is an inaccurate phrase, and why (or why not)

talked with them, still not sure if they’re right but I’m just gonna start saying I’m “on my cycle,” technically I’m always on my cycle but wtv

they’re also transfem so it’s kind of confusing to me why they’d have that association, but maybe?

in layman's terms calling it a bloodless period/period or saying i'm getting my cycle seems perfectly serviceable to me.

i'm a trans guy, so i can't speak to that aspect of it, but i'm wondering if maybe they see it as like, you trying to appropriate something that's not yours? even though you're not making up the pain or anything, maybe they're like, bleeding periods = cis woman and we are not cis women so don't even entertain the idea that we get periods at all ? maybe?

they said I shouldn’t use the term “bloodless period” because I “don’t have the necessary biology” (because, to them, even a bloodless period would require a menstrual cycle). they suggested I call it pmsing though, but I feel like that’s even worse since I’m appropriating a term from a syndrome? idk it was confusing
