And I hate how I see people switch from saying "boyfriend/husband" to saying "partner" when they find out said bf/husband is a trans man, like come on

My coworker swears he respects his son’s identity but is aware that his pronouns are he/him and still uses they/them. And he only calls him “my middle child” rather than “my younger son” or saying “I have two sons.” And he doesn’t understand why his two youngest won’t talk to him anymore 😒

Yeah ofc you should follow the person's preference I've just seen several cases where someone was talking about someone's "boyfriend" and then found out the boyfriend was trans and immediately started saying "partner" instead as if "boyfriend" no longer applied :p

yeah this happens to me a lot i use boyfriend, my (cis) bf uses boyfriend, and for some reason ppl still use "partner" for either of us After boyfriend has been stated... like. i just assume its bc they don't wanna call me (🏳️‍⚧️) boy or imply we're gay (we are)

My mom does this with me and my sister. She calls me the “sibling”, and tries to avoid gendered terms for us two because god forbid she acknowledges I’m a guy. But then gives me boy-themed bday cards??

many reasons! its called "degendering" if you search "Him, her, them, or none: misgendering and degendering" you can find this study
