I have a friend (trans woman) who misgenders me (tfem nb) with she/her and says it “should be gender affirming because you’re not being seen as your birth gender” and it’s really frustrating how she doesn’t get how it’s rude as fuck, even after explaining

I’ve seen this a lot recently. It’s still saying she sees you as a binary gender which is invalidating and it’s also saying she sees your agab. Maybe try explaining that it’s similar to if someone used they/them pronouns for her. It’s not using her birth pronouns but it’s still misgendering because they’re not acknowledging that she’s a woman. It’s like the “woke ally” way of being bigoted. I’m sorry :(

I’ve tried explaining it that way but (iirc) she said it’s overcorrecting, which should still be affirming (or smth) and that it shouldn’t make me dysphoric/uncomfortable because it’s “too feminine” instead of “too masculine.”

I’m pretty sure it’s just an excuse to misgender me (whether she realizes or not), but I can’t tell if it’s because she sees me as a guy or because she thinks I’m just a closeted trans woman/an egg. idk if I’m overthinking it, but either possibility makes me really uncomfortable, especially since I thought we bonded when talking abt gender & our differences in experience :/

man, that’s f’ed up. sorry for you! this is similar to when people will they/them binary trans people because “at least i’m not calling them their agab!! i’m not misgendered them!!” when it is actually misgendering and not okay. you’re friend should respect you and use your preferred pronouns
